Pentucket Regional High School is located approximately 30 miles north of Boston and serves the communities of Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury.  Formerly an agricultural area, these communities have expanded in recent years into residential communities, which are attracting more professional families who desire a more peaceful lifestyle.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEVELS

 

 

AP           ADVANCED PLACEMENT:  Designed for students who excel in a particular subject and have demonstrated exceptional ability and motivation to do advanced work.  Students are expected to successfully participate in the College Board Advanced Placement examination at the end of the course.

 

H1           HONORS 1:  Designed for students whose academic performance has been reflective of very strong ability, laudable motivation and strong work habits.  Research projects, writing activities that challenge critical thinking skills, and independent study will be a fundamentally important part of this achievement that challenge critical thinking presented in depth and at an accelerated pace.

 

H2           HONORS 2:  Designed for students who have high ability and plan to enter a four-year college program.  Instructional approaches will support the goal of enhancing students’ critical thinking skills; a significant amount of home study which involves demanding reading and writing assignments will be of fundamental importance and presented in depth and at an accelerated pace.

 

CP          COLLEGE PREPARATORY:  Designed for students with average ability who are planning to further their education upon graduation at two or four-year institutions of higher learning.  Regular homework assignments and an emphasis on the fundamental academic skills of reading, writing, and computing are the cornerstones of this instrumental level.

 

CPS        COLLEGE PREPARATORY STANDARD:  Designed for students who need improvement in academic skills and who plan to seek full-time employment after graduation or partake in a one or two-year secondary vocational-technical training program.
