Honors Biology Summer Assignment

2009 - 2010

Over the summer, you will conduct field work and collect insects from the local fauna.  From there, you will identify the insects to Order using various tools (such as dichotomous taxonomic keys) and create an insect collection display.  The various insects collected will also be used later in the course for topic discussions and lab activities.

The goals of this activity are to:

  1. Explore the environment around you
  2. Identify the main parts of insects
  3. Learn how to collect, label, display, and preserve insect specimens
  4. Discover the value of field work and specimen collection

Attached, are the specific instructions to perform this assignment.  The final assignment will be due Thursday September 3, 2009 to your assigned Honors Biology teacher.
